Speaking For Ourselves
2010 Annual Conference
Friday, June 18, 2010
at The Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey
Harrisburg, PA
Keynote Speaker: Rachel Simon
Rachel Simon is the author of five books: the
memoirs Riding The Bus With My Sister (2002)
and Building A Home With My Husband (2009);
the writing book The Writer’s Survival Guide
(1997); the novel The Magic Touch (1994); and
the short story collection Little Nightmares,
Little Dreams (1990).
Although her first three books were critically acclaimed
and established a following, it was her first memoir,
Riding the Bus with My Sister, that put her on bestseller
lists. Focusing on the relationship between Rachel and
her sister Beth, who has an intellectual disability, it was
adapted for a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie starring Rosie
O’ Donnell as Beth, Andie McDowell as Rachel, and was
directed by Angelica Houston.
